Higgs boson

  • In 2008, when faulty wiring closed down the $10-billion Large Hadron Collider for more than a year, many wondered whether physicists at the European Organization for Nuclear Research had a white elephant on their hands.

  • I opened Twitter this morning to find two things trending: Comic Sans, and Higgs boson – the former a much-hated font, and the latter something to do with science. As unlikely as it sounds, the two things were linked.
  • (The Guardian)
  • Chances are one of your Bay Area neighbors will have had something to do with Tuesday nights expected announcement regarding the Higgs boson, the elusive God particle believed to be one of the universes basic building blocks.
  • (San Jose Mercury News)
  • CERN's scientists have found a new boson within five standard deviations of accuracy. The new particle is the heaviest boson ever found and it's "consistent" with the Higgs boson.
  • (Mashable)
  • Physicists working at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, have announced the observation of a new particle, widely thought to be the elusive Higgs boson.
  • (ZDNet)
  • Jon Cornish, seen in 2010, celebrated the Higgs bosons discovery Wednesday. I mean, its a monumental discovery.
  • (YAHOO!)
  • (LiveScience) Physicists are thrilled at todays (July 4) announcement of the discovery of a new elementary particle that is likely the Higgs boson, an elusive particle thought to give all other matter its mass.
  • (CBS News)
  • There comes a time in a scientists life when the weight of evidence can no longer be ignored.
